Craig Smith started the Tour de Big Bear and the Big Bear Cycling Association back in 2008. Our very first ride had fewer than 50 people—mostly new club members. Aid stations were literally just a couple of water jugs on a table.
He aimed to make Big Bear the Cycling Capital of the West Coast. Within a few years, he grew the club to over 300 members and even brought the Amgen Tour of California to Big Bear, making Big Bear a critical stop for the UCI World Tour event. Thanks to Craig and the Amgen Tour, Big Bear has grown to become a premier destination for cyclists of all disciplines.
