When your club registers on ACTIVE, you will be entered in the running for the coveted Craig’s Crown Award. The club with the most members registered on ACTIVE will receive prominent recognition at our Awards Ceremony.
We named the trophy in honor of the founder of the Tour de Big Bear, Craig Smith. Craig’s vision was the foundation for the Tour de Big Bear and the Big Bear Cycling Association back in 2008. The first Tour de Big Bear event had fewer than 50 participants, mostly new club members. Back then, aid stations were just a couple of water jugs on tables for filling water bottles. Craig aimed to make Big Bear the Cycling Capital of the West Coast, growing the club to over 300 members. He even secured Big Bear as a stop in the Amgen Tour of California for two years, including a notable time trial stage. Thanks to the Tour de Big Bear and Amgen stops, Craig put Big Bear, previously known only for mountain biking, on the map for road cycling too.
